March 2019 saw the publication of research conducted by the Work Foundation for Be the Business: Raising UK competitiveness: Inside the mindsets of leaders of firms.

Be the Business was established in 2017 to encourage productivity improvements amongst businesses in the UK.

Over the last year or so, Be the Business has been working with small and medium-sized business leaders, trade unions, professional bodies, local authorities, business groups and other economic stakeholders to support business-led productivity-enhancements in management practices and the research was intended to provide insights behind the performance problem and how it can best be tackled.

The results were released at Be the Business Business festival on 19th March where they were discussed with senior leaders and stakeholders from industry and Government including the secretary of state for business Greg Clark and the Chairman of Be the Business Sir Charlie Mayfield.
