Intergenerational conflict: generation Y vs. an ageing workforce

Tuesday, 08 February 2011
09:00 - 11:00
The Work Foundation, 21 Palmer Street, London SW1H 0AD

Partnership Workshop:

Intergenerational conflict: generation Y vs. an ageing workforce

Speakers:

  • Liz Nottingham, HR director, Starcom MediaVest
  • Sonia Wolsey-Cooper, corporate responsibility director, AXA PPP Healthcare
  • Jane Sullivan, senior consultant, The Work Foundation
  • Wilson Wong, senior researcher, The Work Foundation

The Workshop:

As the UK population ages, many organisations will be facing the challenge of managing four generations at work at the same time. With this comes the risk of conflicting expectations, difficulties in communication, differential use of technology, and diverse approaches to problem solving and innovation.

Essentially, this is not a new issue – different generations have always worked side by side in organisations. However, the western world’s ageing population and the phenomena of generation Y and beyond combined are widely thought to be creating a new organisational dynamic with unique challenges.

This event aims to provoke debate, debunk myths and provide insight into the future of work. It will offer insight into the challenges faced by a fast paced, global media agency employing predominantly young employees, as well as the challenges and opportunities an older workforce brings to a large private health insurance company.

Some of the questions that will be asked include:

  • What are the future trends organisations should be paying attention to now?
  • Is generation theory a useful focus for organisations? Are there alternative models to help organisations navigate demographic diversity?
  • How can organisations manage the expectations of younger workers?
  • What are the implications of an ageing workforce?

Who should attend?

Directors of strategy, directors of HR, and anyone interested in people management and the impact of demographic change on the workforce.

This event is exclusively for partners of The Work Foundation and there is no fee to attend.

To reserve your place on this event, please email partnership@theworkfoundation.com and include your name, company, job title, email address and telephone number.
