Meet the Cabinet: Iain Duncan Smith, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions

Thursday, 30 June 2011
08:00 - 09:30
The Work Foundation

Meet the Cabinet: Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP

  • Rt Hon Iain Duncan Smith MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
  • Will Hutton, Executive Vice Chair, The Work Foundation (Chair)

Who should attend?

Policy makers and those interested in understanding more about welfare reform, in particular the government’s plans for the system.

The Coalition government has committed itself to reforming the benefit system as one of its flagship policies. The Welfare Reform Bill, now progressing through parliament, proposes sweeping changes to the current system, including the creation of a new Universal Credit. But the plans are not without critics. So are the reforms really, as the Prime Minister asserts, ‘tough, radical…but fair’?

Chaired by Will Hutton, this wide-ranging event will look at the challenges presented by the modern welfare system and will provide an insight into the government’s thinking on this sensitive and sometimes controversial issue.

The event forms part of The Work Foundation’s Bottom Ten Million programme which focuses on in-work poverty and unemployment in the changing economy.

This is a private event exclusively for partners with The Work Foundation or by invitation only.
To reserve your place at this event, please email including your name, company, job title and telephone number.
