Sir David Tweedie

The global accounting experiment stands at a cross-roads. The key to success lies in the US adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Sir David will discuss the likelihood of success and the alternatives if the US delay a decision on using international standards. Sir David (BCom 1966, PhD 1969) qualified as a Scottish Chartered Accountant in 1972. In 1990, Sir David was appointed the first Chairman of the Accounting Standards Board, the committee responsible for producing the UK's accounting standards. In 2001 he was appointed the first Chairman of the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) until 2011. He was knighted in 1994 and has received many prestigious awards for services to the Accounting Profession. Sir David became President of ICAS in April 2012.
