The Work Foundation is hosting the launch of the OECD's Education at a Glance 2012.

The event starts at 10.30 am, with coffee and pastries available from 10.00am. The briefing is embargoed until Tuesday 11 September at 10.00am.

The context
Education at a Glance is the leading international compendium of comparable national statistics measuring the state of education worldwide. This year’s report includes new indicators on early childhood education and care, on inequality in education and how a parent’s education influences their child’s academic attainment, and on the factors affecting the performance of immigrant and disadvantaged children at school.

Education at a Glance aims to help educators and policy makers see how their education systems perform compared to other countries and reviews their efforts to reform and improve their policies. The report also addresses: public and private spending on education; its social and economic benefits for people and economies; tuition fees; adult participation in education; class sizes, teacher salaries and decision-making powers of schools; and analysis of national exam systems and the criteria for attending tertiary education.

The report analyses the education systems of the 34 OECD member countries, as well as Argentina, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Saudi Arabia and South Africa.

Andreas Schleicher, Special Advisor on Education Policy to the OECD's Secretary General, and Professor Ian Walker, Head of Economics, Lancaster University, will hold a media briefing to discuss the report’s findings, this briefing is under embargo until 10.00 a.m. London time on Tuesday 11 September.
