Youth Insight: the reality and aspirations of the world of work for British youth
Tuesday, 01 October 2013
17:30 - 19:00
Manchester Central, Central 5, Conservative Party Conference, Manchester
The focus of the event was what policymakers, recruiters and employers should be doing to ensure young people achieve their aspirations for work.
Ensuring young people develop the skills and have the work opportunities to progress their careers is a pressing issue for policymakers and for society. The challenging broader labour market context makes this even more of a priority. There need to be better connections between education, recruitment, job-matching and in-work training. But often the voices of young people in improving the system are missing from the debate.
Featuring new research with young people on their attitude and approach to development opportunities and work, this panel session explored how employers and policy makers can better understand young people’s aspirations and approach to work and development opportunities, and use this insight to improve employment outcomes for all young people
