The long term productivity and competiveness of the UK labour market is threatened by the growing burden of ill-health in the working age population. A more co-ordinated and joined-up effort is required to prevent and manage chronic illness and to improve the long-term health and wellbeing of the workforce.

The Work Foundation’s new Health at Work Policy Unit will provide an independent, authoritative and evidence- based voice, in the public debate on health, wellbeing and work. This event will mark the launch of the Unit’s first white paper focusing on removing barriers to health in work, the first of a series which will respond to contemporary debate and offer accurate, evidence-based and implementable policy suggestions. Alongside this, a range of events and continuous dialogue with policymakers, practitioners, employers and the press, will provide a powerful force to fundamentally change the policy landscape in the UK, improving the health and wellbeing of the working age population.

This event included keynote speeches covering the unit’s background, ambitions and work programme, the presentation of the first white paper and a panel discussion.
