The context

From 30 June 2014 employee’s statutory right to request flexible working was altered. On receipt of the request, employers are now duty bound to judiciously consider all submissions case by case, but are not required to accept all requests. During the event, some of the 'nuts and bolts' of the new right to request flexible working were discussed, including some of the tricky issues that employers need to consider when dealing with such requests. The event also discussed the broader issue of 'contingent working' and how the rise of non-traditional ways of working brings new challenges within the workplace.

The topics covered during the seminar included:

• New rules on the right to request flexible working, including eligibility and procedure
• The Acas code of practice and guide
• Dealing with tricky issues
• The discrimination angle
• Relevant case law
• The rise of non-traditional modes of working
• An overview of the main types of contingent working arrangements
• Potential pitfalls in using these arrangements
• Practical steps to minimise risk
