Embedding Good Work in Organisational Change Through A Recession

Organisational change is always challenging and is perhaps even more so when the change involves downsizing or the closure of a facility. In this event we examine approaches to change and draw on our research on Good Jobs and on our experience of applying principles of and embedding Good Work in change management to ensure  staff are positively engaged in the change process. Our approach can be applied to change in all situations but has particular resonance in addressing change in transforming organisations in the recession.

The event also brings in an illuminating example of good practice in engaging staff in the case of the closure of one of GlaxoSmithKline’s facilities. Joe Foley, site director, will discuss his strategy for continuing to engage, develop and value all staff at their site, and to honour community commitments during the period in which the site is preparing for shut down in 2013.

The event will address some of the following questions:
What are the particular challenges facing organisations implementing change, especially at this time?
• How can principles of Good Work be embedded when an organisation is planning and implementing substantial change?
• How do you continue to engage employees during tough organisational change?
