Improved wellbeing among NHS staff is essential

Authors: Stephen Bevan

23 October 2014

Welcoming the NHS Five Year Forward View report and its focus on workforce health, Professor Stephen Bevan, who this week launched the Health at Work Policy Unit at Lancaster University's Work Foundation, said:

“Our first policy paper explores, in detail, the range of incentives which government might use to encourage greater business investment in the health and productivity of UK workers. We think that an extension of existing tax breaks for business may be merited if they are targeted and evidence-based

"We also support calls for improved wellbeing among NHS staff - the link between workforce health and standards of patient care are very clear and more needs to be done to ensure NHS staff are role models and advocates of healthy lifestyles.”
