Research shows that employees who feel they are treated fairly are more productive and engaged. Awareness of this is growing but are workplaces becoming fairer or is the trend heading in the opposite direction? As more and more people take pay cuts, give up perks and accept reduced hours to protect their jobs, how is the tough economic climate affecting fairness in the workplace?
A key issue for policy makers, the business community, trade unions and employees, fairness at work affects the quality of life and the sustainability of society in many ways including the potential impact on living standards and social inequality.
Questions addressed included whether should fairness be sacrificed to ensure survival of businesses, whether trade unions have had their day and whether discrimination is getting worse.
