Satisfying Employer Demand for Skills

This report demonstrates the government and its agencies and the small business sector think very differently about skills. Although the government stresses the benefits of skills development to high performance, SMEs rarely view skills in this way, citing more short-term pressures such as customer service issues or labour shortages as a driving factor. In order to make the effort to drive up skills levels succeed, the Government needs a closer understanding of what drives smaller firms and how skills development can help.
