City Relationships: Economic linkages in Northern city regions

City Relationships: Economic linkages in Northern city regions

The Work Foundation led a study, working with the Centre for Cities and SURF, to investigate the economic links between towns and cities in the North of England, supported by the Northern Way and Communities and Local Government. The work tested the hypothesis that strengthening links between places would lead to higher levels of sustainable economic growth and developed a typology of ‘city relationships’.

The City Relationships research programme, which was carried out between October 2008 and November 2009, produced an additional five reports detailing the findings and conclusions for each of the City regions in this study:

City Relationships: Leeds city region

City Relationships: Liverpool city region

City Relationships: Manchester city region

City Relationships: Sheffield city region

City Relationships: Tyne and Wear city region

A report on the Research Methodology is also available

As a follow on activity, the Northern Way, with Humber Economic Partnership, commissioned a research report for the Hull and Humber Ports:

City Relationships: Economic Linkages in Northern city regions Hull and Humber
