The burden of chronic health conditions is considerable, causing an estimated 86% of deaths and accounting for 77% of Europe’s disease burden (The World Health Organisation). Frequently individuals with physical health conditions also have mental health conditions, which can impact health and work outcomes. We know that working is often good for health, both mental and physical, and work can aid in recovery. This report explores the inter-relationship between long term physical and mental health conditions and the impact these conditions have on productivity and work participation and also recommends how to reduce the burden of these conditions on the UK economy and workforce .
