The event in detail
Thursday, 26 November 2009
8.00am for 8.30am to 9.30am, light breakfast will be provided
This recession has been different from previous ones. Employers have tried to hang on to knowledge and skills and avoid trimming staff as demand falls, and there have been more attempts to co-operate to reduce costs and save jobs where possible. Pay freezes, unpaid leave, flexible working and temporary shut-downs have all played a part. Now some employers are helping people manage financial uncertainty by encouraging and helping employees to take control of their finances. More and more employers now understand that employee engagement levels are fundamental to the effectiveness of an organisation –particularly with the additional challenges faced in a recession. The event will provide a platform for sharing solutions and will demonstrate new ways of making the workplace a highly effective route to improving financial education and understanding. Questions to be covered include:
- What does the employment landscape need to look like?
- Will the mood of cooperation survive the period of public sector austerity that lies ahead?
- How can the private sector improve personal finance understanding in its workforces?
Speakers:
- Lord Young, Parliamentary under Secretary of State for Employment Relations and Postal Affairs
- David Coats, Associate Director, The Work Foundation
- Paul McMahon, Managing Director, AXA Corporate
- Chair: Sian Harrington, HR Magazine
