Knowledge Economy 1

Knowledge EconomyThe Work Foundation completed Phase 1 of a three - year, £1.4 million research initiative in April 2009. It aimed to better understand the knowledge economy and was the largest research project of its kind in Europe.

"Vital to the future prosperity of advanced economies is understanding how to generate success and economic value from knowledge. This exciting and important project will identify the ways in which the knowledge economy can boost the performance of the British economy, and the steps we must take in the years to come to become the leading location in the world for knowledge-based industries."

Gordon Brown, prime minister at the launch of the knowledge economy 1, 2006

The Work Foundation’s research looked at many issues surrounding the knowledge economy – spanning economic theory, occupational change, outsourcing, trade, globalisation, innovation, R&D and education and skills. It provided profound insight into how we work and how the changing economy projects into the social, corporate and political worlds.
