Abstract

Yorkshire and Humber is more dependent than most UK regions on publicly funded employment and employment growth over the past decade was dominated by the expansion of the public sector. Given that forthcoming reductions in public spending are therefore likely to have a proportionately greater impact on the regional economy, it is vital that public sector bodies and local government are given the freedoms and flexibilities they need to manage the impacts whilst supporting private sector recovery.
